Just five short years ago, Good Morning America host Robin Roberts announced she had beat the odds and defeated her battle with breast cancer. Well after years of being healthy and being an inspiration to women everywhere, Robin Roberts announced some disheartening news. While the cancer is still gone, the treatment for the cancer has cause another life threatening disease.

In an announcement on Good Morning America this morning, Roberts sat hand in hand with her four co-hosts as she tearfully brought attention to her recent diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which is an extremely rare blood and bone marrow disease. She announced that starting today, she will begin what is known as pre-treatment. In a letter written to viewers with more detail about her diagnosis, Roberts stated:

“Today, I will start what is known as pre-treatment -– chemotherapy in advance of a bone marrow transplant later this year. Bone marrow donors are scarce and particularly for African-American women.  I am very fortunate to have a sister who is an excellent match, and this greatly improves my chances for a cure.”

Roberts is not letting the diagnosis bring her down. She repeatedly stated over and over how she is strong and she will beat this. She has been an inspiration to women every where as they fight battles such as breast cancer, and as she battles this disease she will only become more of an inspiration. And with the support, love, and prayers of her co-hosts and co-workers, friends, family, viewers, and more, we have no doubt she will come out better than ever. Best of wishes Robin, we’re keeping you in our prayers.
