First Blue Bell. Then major flooding. Now Whataburger. What's going on, Texas?

An Avian Flu outbreak has resulted in a major egg shortage across the nation, and now Texas-based Whataburger has decided to shorten its breakfast serving hours in response.

Whataburger is informing its loyal customers it will limit the hours in which it will serve breakfast due to a national egg shortage. Starting today, June 1, 2015, all Whataburger restaurants will serve breakfast items from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays and from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekends so the restaurants can concentrate the limited supply during peak breakfast hours, while supplies last.

While our supply team continues to work diligently to source more eggs, we feel a limited time period to serve our breakfast dishes is a better alternative to stop serving them altogether.

Whataburger is working closely with our egg suppliers to do everything in our power to replenish our egg supply as soon as possible. It’s important to know this is a supply issue and not a health safety issue. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some of our customers, and we hope to return to our normal breakfast operations soon.

Whataburger, which is opened 24 hours, normally serves breakfast from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. It often serves as a perfect late-night retreat, and not having breakfast during those hours is sure to affect quite a few folks. Thank goodness we'll still be able to eat the best hamburger around at 2 a.m., though.
