Drunk driving in Texas is prevalent enough that we should all know not to drive after a few drinks - whether it's the holidays or not. In a research study for 2016, 987 people lost their lives in Texas due to drunk driving. Of that total there were 638 DUI drivers, which means the difference - 349 fatalities - were tragic casualties of drunk drivers.

AAA Roadside Assistance is offering something that will undoubtedly save lives this New Year's - and it's free for everyone in the state of Texas. If you call 1-800-222-4357, you can get a free tow home of up to 10 miles. It is recommended that you discuss additional charges if your request goes over the 10-mile-limit.

It's called the Holiday Safe Ride Program or 'Tipsty Tow', and while it's not available everywhere, it is in Texas. But there are two little caveats you need to know before you call them at 12:35 am on New Year's Day.

  • The program runs from 6 pm, Dec. 31 to 6 am Jan. 1, 2018.
  • It's a one-way tow ride - not a taxi to take you to Waffle House
