When summer hits, people tend to get some extra free time on their hands. Instead of using that free time to be bored or just sitting on the couch watching TV, why not get out and do something? There are plenty of things going on in the community that people of all ages can do.

Here in East Texas there are plenty of nonprofit organizations that are always looking for volunteers to help out in the summer. These are fun ways to get you and even the kids out of the house, but all the while doing something to help other people.

Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. serves a daily meal to nearly 3,000+ frail, homebound senior citizens and disabled persons for every weekday in East Texas. You can visit their website for volunteer opportunities and more information on the organization itself.

The East Texas Food Bank is a nonprofit organization, has provided food to over 200 partner agencies, in an effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas. The Boys and Girls Club is open to all children K-8th grades and provide what kids need most: a safe loving, mentoring environment where they can have fun and be themselves.
