Three new Walmart stores are coming to Tyler, which will give the Rose City seven total locations when it's all said and done.

One new Walmart Supercenter and two Neighborhood Market stores are in the works, with the Supercenter going up at 450 SSE Loop 323 at the intersection of the loop and Highway 31.

One Neighborhood Market will be at 5976 Old Jacksonville Highway at the northwest corner of the Old Jacksonville and Grande Blvd. intersection. The other will be at 2151 Frankston Highway, where Highway 155 turns into Vine Ave. near the Tyler ISD administration offices.

Both Neighborhood Market locations will have gas stations. Realtor Don Simmons told the Tyler Morning Telegraph the hope is the Old Jacksonville location will be open by the first of 2016. No timetable has currently been set for the other two stores.

The new supercenter has been in the works for several years, and the land purchase was contingent on Tyler voting for beer and wine sales in the city, which passed in 2012.

“That’s all good news for Tyler,” Tom Mullins, executive director of the Tyler Area Economic Development Council, told the newspaper. “That means our growth is attracting that kind of interest. I think you will see more of that as we continue to grow and attract more population.”

When completed, this will give Tyler a total of seven Walmart locations -- or, as the newspaper pointed out, one store for every 14,300 residents.

Add the Walmart stores to the three current Brookshire's locations, Fresh By Brookshires, soon-to-be four Super 1 Foods (the newest near The Village at Cumberland Park in Tyler), Target and the new Natural Grocers store, that will give Tyler a total of 17 grocery stores.
