"Alright, alright, alright--class is in session!"

Can't you just hear him now?

The Moody College of Communication announced on Wednesday that Longview-native and A-list actor Matthew McConaughey has been appointed a professor at the University of Texas in Austin. He's been a visiting instructor since 2015 but now I guess they've decided to take their academic relationship to the next level. The Hollywood Reporter er...reports the Oscar-winning actor "will join the University of Texas as a professor and will teach this fall in the university's Department of Radio-Television-Film."

Yesterday, a statement from the University said the appointment simply recognizes his "outstanding work as a teacher and mentor."

So in order to have Professor McConaughey, what class will you need to sign up for? And you'll probably need to sign up quickly because it's clearly going to fill up fast. Look for him to continue teaching a Script to Screen film production class, the curriculum design in which he had a hand in developing.

I clearly see how this is a boon for UT's flagship school, but do you wonder what he's getting out of it? Well, he is an alumnus, having graduated with a film degree from UT back 1993. Maybe he just wants to give back? Maybe he enjoys teaching?

Regardless, I know this much: They won't have any trouble filling his classes. ;)
