Tyler’s ‘Free Bulky Item Week’ Begins Monday, September 30th

Get those hard to discard of bulky items removed from your home for free by the City Of Tyler this week.

If you've replaced an old home appliance or some furniture to get rid of and you live in the city of Tyler, don't worry because the city's solid waste department will help out by coming through your neighborhood and picking it up for free during 'Bulky Item Week'.

I know from experience that getting rid of an old microwave and an old recliner are hard to do. Both of these things require a trip to city's landfill and often times a sur-charge. So if you have some of the following lying around in your garage or your yard now's the time to have it hauled off for free. When you place the following items on your curb by Monday, September 30th, the City Of Tyler Solid Waste Department will come through and collect it for free:

• furniture
• appliances
• carpet
• fence material
• up to four non-commercial tires
• old toys
• paint - must be dried out with kitty litter or oil dry
• other large items that would normally require a special fee

There are items that will not be collected. Those items are:

• liquid waste
• limbs
• brush
• tree stumps

With this program, pick up will happen the week of September 30th and may be different from your normal trash pick up day(s). Make sure all items are curbside by Monday, September 30th because once crews make a sweep of your neighborhood to make the pick ups, if they come back through to collect from you, they'll also collect a special pick-up fee too.

For those not able to participate, the City Of Tyler Recycling Center is open at 418 N. Bois D'Arc from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday where the following may be recycled (with some categories requiring a recycling fee):

• Paper (newspapers, magazines, phonebooks, ads and office paper)
• Cardboard of any type (broken down)
• Plastic (rinsed and crushed #1 and #2 HDPE, lids removed; examples- water or soda bottles, milk jugs and detergent bottles)
• Glass (rinsed clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars with lids removed) - NO BLUE GLASS OR MIRRORS
• Ink Cartridges
• Electronics (computers, TVs, monitors, cell phones, chargers and other portable devices)
• Metal (copper, aluminum, brass and steel)
• Aluminum cans (rinsed and crushed, no aluminum pie plates or tin)
• Household appliances including air conditioners and refrigerators DO NOT require a disposal fee this week as long as you provide a current water bill
• Motor oil/hydraulic fluid (small quantities)
• Automotive batteries/anti-freeze (small quantities)
