One Texas mother defended what was hers after a man tried to take her car with her two toddlers in the backseat.

CBS 11 News reports that the incident happened just after 10 p.m. on July 4 at a gas station in Dallas. The mother left her children in the SUV and ran inside the convenience store. That's when the suspect, identified as Rickey Wright, 36, jumped in the car and tried to drive away.

The quick-thinking mom jumped into the car and tried to get Wright to stop. When he refused, she pulled a gun from the glove compartment and shot him in the head.

The mom told CBS 11 News:

I should have just have emptied the whole clip but I didn't. I didn't. I just wanted to give him a warning shot, that was it," the woman told the station. "I'm not a killer or anything like that, but I do believe in defending what's mine.

Wright crashed into a light pole and was transported to a local hospital where he is in serious, but stable condition. He is charged with two counts of Unlawful Restraint and Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle

The mother and children were not hurt.
