It has been more than two decades since the death of James Byrd Jr. and Monday (October 29th) the U.S. Supreme Court has denied 43-year-old John William King’s appeal.

From our media partner KLTV, John William King who is on death row for dragging James Byrd Jr. to death from behind of a pickup truck back in June 1998 because of his race which caught National attention.

James Byrd Jr. was murdered by three white supremacists in Jasper where he was dragged three miles behind a pickup truck along an asphalt road.

While being dragged Byrd was unconscious throughout the ordeal and when his body hit a culvert it severed his right arm and head before his remains were dropped off in front of a black cemetery.

In October 28th, 2009 President Obama passed the federal Matthew Shepherd and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act and to this date there is no clear motive of the crime.

The case is close to coming to an end.
