Cedric Benson, the Texas Longhorn legend and former NFL running back passed away Saturday night (August 17th) after an accident in Austin.

According to TMZ, Benson and a unidentified passenger were struck and killed by a mini van as they crossed an intersection on his motorcycle.

Video footage released showed at least 6 cars that have pulled over to tend to Benson as his motorcycle was against the driver’s side of the door as the van was in flames.

One individual grabbed a fire extinguisher and aided Benson as fire and rescue arrived on the scene later, but Benson and his passenger were pronounced dead.

Benson had an outstanding career at Texas as he rushed over 1,000 yards in all four seasons and is 9th leading rusher in college football history, with 5,540 yards.

He was drafted 4th overall by the Chicago Bears in 2005 and was a member of the 2006 NFC Champions team and also played for Cincinnati, and Green Bay.

The investigation is still ongoing.
