In Texas, you can carry a gun and certain knives in order to protect yourself and your family. While one could carry a knife, however, there were very explicit rules regarding what kinds. Well, that's all about to change.

On September 1, 2017 the Texas Knife Reform Bill will go into effect, which will open up knife collections to weapons formerly considered illegal in the lone star state. According to a report from Knife Rights, Governor Greg Abbott signed HB 1935, which repeals the ban on the following, allowing them to be carried anywhere in Texas :

  • dirks
  • stilettos
  • daggers
  • poniards
  • swords
  • spears
  • Bowie knives

I'll tell you right now, I feel that walking around with a spear could be quite cumbersome - especially if you're taking public transit.

Of course, there are still limitations as to where you can bring these defensive weapons, per Click2Houston. You cannot carry these knives in places like:

  • schools
  • colleges
  • correctional facilities
  • houses of worship
  • bars
  • minors are also restricted

Who knows... maybe some will actually bring their sword into a gunfight these days. Wouldn't that be weird.
