Stealing Manhole Covers Lands Two East Texas Women in Jail

Authorities in Harrison County have arrested two women attempting to sell stolen manhole covers to a scrap yard.

40-year-old Rachel Bradley and 51-year-old Penny Hirth Summers, both of Longview are accused of stealing 59 manhole covers from a city business park in Longview.

According to Gregg County Court records Bradley is set to be sentenced May 6, 2013 for the theft of Christmas gifts from a storage building in 2011. The gifts were to be donated to the Gregg County Child Welfare Board.

Online records also indicate Summers was convicted and sentenced April 24, 2013 on several theft charges. She was recently released from jail.

Authorities said the two women were also attempting to sell an urn taken from a Longview cemetery.
