Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Tyler could get a sidewalk upgrade soon! The City Council approved a contract with Union Pacific Railroad Co. that could jump start the long-awaited sidewalks, according to TylerPaper.com. The City will reimburse 50% of the railroad's $400,000 cost to upgrade the crossing. The City plans to install sidewalks and lighting along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between West Gentry Parkway and North Broadway Avenue.

“The city needs to install some sidewalks and lighting improvements through the railroad right of way, and we are not allowed to do any of that part until we get explicit approval from the railroad to enter into their right of way to do the work.”
