Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have canceled future album and tour plans due to the singer’s current medical condition.

The soul songstress announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer. Jones has stage 1 bile duct cancer. Bile duct cancer affects a thin tube that connects the liver to the small intestine.

Jones, 57, posted a statement on the group’s website, explaining her condition. “Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on," she wrote. "We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have stage-one tumor on my bile duct."

She goes on to say that there is a bright side to the negative. "Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!” she revealed. "I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”

The entertainer will undergo surgery soon and will update her fans on her progress.

'Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings' is the first album the group released in 2002. Their 2007 LP, ‘100 Days, 100 Nights,’ was named No. 9 on the Rock’s Best Albums of the Decade by Rhapsody.
