UPDATE: Escaped Inmate Located

Update:

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) captured a prison inmate Monday, the same day he walked off a work detail outside the secure perimeter at the TDCJ Clyde M. Johnston Unit in Winnsboro.

Earlier Monday, TDCJ had sought the public’s help in finding Alvin Elliott, 25, who, after he walked away, was last seen near County Road 4400 in Winnsboro at 8:15 a.m. According to TDCJ, Elliott was found after 4 p.m. about two miles from where he went missing.

Elliott was convicted of burglary of a habitation in Morris County and been in custody at the Johnston Unit since June 24. He is on probation and, as a condition of his probation, was assigned to the Johnston Unit, according to TDCJ.

Elliott will be arraigned in Wood County on felony escape charges.

Alvin Elliott was last seen near Winnsboro after escaping a work detail earlier in the day near the Johnston Unit. According to KLTV, The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is looking for the public’s help in locating 25-year-old Alvin Elliott who was last seen near County Road 4400 in Winnsboro at 8:15 am.

Elliott is a black male, 6 feet tall and weighs 277 pounds. He is a trusty at the nearby Johnston Unit and appears to have walked off a work assignment outside the secure perimeter of the unit. Elliott is a probationer who is assigned to Johnston as a condition of his probation. He was convicted of burglary of a habitation out of Morris County. He was last seen wearing standard-issue prison whites which look like medical scrubs in all-white top and bottom.

Elliott has been in custody at the Johnston Unit since June 24, 2019. If you have seen this offender you are asked to call the Office of Inspector General hotline at 936-437-5171 or local law enforcement. Law enforcement advises that you do not approach Elliott
