Legendary and Academy Award-winning actor Robin Williams has died at the age of 63 in an apparent suicide, according to a police report.

Williams, known for his roles in Hollywood hits such as "Good Will Hunting" (for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor) and Mrs. Doubtfire, had apparently been battling severe depression, according to his publicist.

His wife, Susan Schneider, released this statement to The New York Times:

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one if its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin's death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

Williams was known for his hilarious demeanor and was responsible for millions of laughs over the years on television and in the movies. He rose to fame playing Mork the Alien on the TV show "Mork and Mindy."

According to a press release from the police, “At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.”

We have lost a true screen icon who made us laugh for many years. I, for one, grew up watching Robin Williams in so many different roles, and his portrayal of Dr. Sean Maguire in "Good Will Hunting" is one of my favorites of all-time.

Rest in peace, Mr. Williams. If you or someone you know is battling depression, don't wait. It just might save their life.
