Common has released a new memoir and revealed for the first time he was molested as a child.

According to Rolling Stone, Let Love Have The Last Word, rapper/actor wrote he was reminded of the traumatic experience two years ago while preparing for his role along side actress, Laura Dern, in HBO's The Tale.

He wrote,

One day, while talking through the script with Laura, old memories surprisingly flashed in my mind. I caught my breath and just kept looping the memories over and over, like rewinding an old VHS tape…I said ‘Laura, I think I was abused.

Common was either 9 or 10 years old, while visiting his Aunt's house in Cleveland.  He stated he was excited for the trip with his mom, Godmother and brother and relative who he called Brandon.

Common said he and Brandon shared a bed and that's where the abuse took place.

He kept saying ‘It’s okay, It’s okay,’ as he pulled down my shorts and molested me. After he stopped he kept asking me to perform it on him. I kept repeating ‘No’ and pushing him away. I felt a deep and sudden shame for what happened.

Since the incident he pushed the whole thing out his head and even now after memories he is still working though his healing with himself and his therapist.

This incident only happened once and Common has forgiven Brandon saying he wants to be the one who helps break the cycle of violence.
