For the second time in less than a week, Tyler Police are working a crime scene at the Varsity Place Apartments located directly across the street of the University of Texas at Tyler.

Tyler Police Department Public information officer Don Martin says investigators are looking for a person who was shot by an apartment resident around 9:30a.m. Friday.

Martin says the 19-year-old who shot the person told officers he had prior contact with the shooting victim and felt threatened and thought he was going to be robbed when the shooting victim returned to the apartment and displayed a handgun.

The apartment resident also had a gun and shot the victim once in the upper torso before he fled the complex.

Police do believe the shooting is drug related and are questioning the apartment resident, but at this time no arrest have been made and police are contacting area hospitals to find out if a shooting victim is being treated.

Police were called to the complex early Tuesday morning to investigate an assault and robbery. Police are investigating todays shooting to see if there may be a connection to the assault and robbery earlier this week.

We will update with more information as it becomes available.
