Tyler, TX - A shooting over a text message has left one person hospitalized and another person jailed.

Smith County Sheriff deputies were called to a house in the 4000 block of Morningside Drive on Monday, where 41-year-old John Paul Parker was grazed in the head after his girlfriend allegedly shot him over a text message. Shannon Deanna Grimes, 41, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Deputies say the two have been dating on and off again for several years.


Student Hospitalized After Being Shot

Gladewater -- A 16-year-old Gladewater student remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the face after he was shot over the weekend. Gladewater Police Chief Alexander Farrell says officers were first called to the Weldon Bumble Bee Park, but later responded to a second call at a convenience store where the teen had been driven to. EMS then transported the student to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Last night 17-year-old Kari Harper turned himself into police. Chief Alexander says an ongoing argument between the two led to the shooting.


Cholesterol Drugs Could Lead to Diabetes

WASHINGTON (AP) — Some doctors are scratching their heads over the latest link to a possible side-effect from cholesterol-lowering wonder drugs called statins. They may increase some people's chances of developing Type 2 diabetes. Specialists say high-risk people who most need statins should stick with the drugs. But the finding could create a dilemma for otherwise healthy people.

Texas' $1 Billion Lawsuit Begins Today

AUSTIN (AP) — Opening statements are scheduled today in a $1 billion suit by Texas against Johnson & Johnson. The suit accuses the New Jersey-based company of overstating the safety of an anti-psychotic drug and influencing its use in the state's Medicaid program.
