McKinney ISD Update and Install Over 1,500 Security Cameras To Keep Students Safe

McKinney ISD is taking steps to prevent any mass shootings on their school grounds by installing more than 1,500 high-definition cameras in all of their elementary, middle and high school which is significant from 300 cameras to which 60% of them didn't work.

Dallas News reports their decision came after the deadly mass shooting in Florida that left 17 dead and a string of potential threats all over the country including Texas where a 13-year-old student was arrested after making threats on social media against other students at Cockrill Middle School.

The cameras were funded as part of a $6.5 million which was allocated to safety and security upgrades as part of a $220 million bond package which was approved by McKinney voters in May of 2016.

Since the threat parents sent emails and phone calls about extra security measures and with this technology school administration can view camera feeds from their computers, as well as viewing footage from other schools.
