Madonna once again voiced her endorsement of President Barack Obama onstage in Washington, D.C. Monday night -- but she threw in a comment that threw off not just her fans, but also the hyperactive election season press. No stranger to controversy (the woman courts it for a living), Madonna urged her supporters to support Obama because he's a black Muslim.

Here's the thing, though: Obama's not a Muslim.

Madge's fans went into a frenzy following the show, and so did the political brass. After Madonna talked up the likes of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr., she brought up the incumbent POTUS.

"It is so amazing to think that we have an African American in the White House," she cheered, "so that those men didn't die for nothing! They fought for our freedom -- not just for African Americans, but for everyone. For people who are different, for people who are dimensional, for people who want to believe in what they want to believe."

"Y'all better vote for f---in' Obama!" she yelled. "So," she concluded, "You all better f---ing vote for Obama. For better or for worse, we have a black Muslim in the White House," she emphasized. "That is some amazing s---. It means there is hope in this country. Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, God d--- it!"

The biggest chunk of Madonna's following consists of the gay community, so of course she'd bring up gay rights -- but we don't think she actually believes President Obama is a Muslim. Madonna's a smart lady, and it's been pretty much debunked time and again whenever someone throws that label at the Prez: He doesn't discriminate against Muslims, but he considers himself a Christian. We think she was just explaining what a big deal he is in terms of groundbreaking politicians (or "prophets," as she worded it) and got carried away and a little hyperbolic.

In any case, we're pretty sure this was a publicity ploy, and guess what? We're all talking about it, so it worked. Point: Madge.
