‘Laverne & Shirley’ Actor Penny Marshall Dead At 75

News is breaking that we've lost another great actress, Penny Marshall.

Best known for her role as Laverne DeFazio on "Laverne & Shirley," Marshall died Monday at her Hollywood home from diabetes-related complications, according to CBS News.

Marshall also made history with her directing career, starting with "Big" starring Tom Hanks. She was the first woman director to have a film gross over $100 million. She directed other movies including "A League of Their Own".

The show which made her a star was directed by her late brother Garry Marshall and aired from 1976 to 1983. It followed the antics of two factory-workers at a Milwaukee factory and was a spin-off from another hit series "Happy Days."

CBS included a statement from the family:

Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall." They called her "a tomboy who loved sports, doing puzzles of any kind, drinking milk and Pepsi together and being with her family. Penny was a girl from the Bronx, who came out West, put a cursive 'L' on her sweater and transformed herself into a Hollywood success story. We hope her life continues to inspire others to spend time with family, work hard and make all of their dreams come true.
