Johnny Boy Da Prince Dead, Killed in Chicago

Chicago rapper Johnny Boy Da Prince, 23, was killed Wednesday (Jan. 9) in a hail of bullets. His body was apparently left for dead in an alley located in the Garfield Park neighborhood of the city.

The aspiring rhymer, who was reportedly set to take a meeting with executives at Atlantic Records before he was shot, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital to undergo surgery as a result of his injuries, the Chicago Tribune reports. However, doctors were unsuccessful in saving him.

Dillard Florence, Johnny's manager, revealed to the paper that his murder was a case of "mistaken identity."

Johnny Boy, who leaves behind a 4-year-old son, recently recorded 'Just Like You,' a song detailing senseless killings. His murder follows a series of gun-related deaths in Chicago. Earlier this month, Chief Keef's stepbrother was shot and killed.

Andrew Fechter, an assistant at Atlantic Records, came across Johnny Boy's music after his manager sent him an email. "I played it at a meeting and everyone liked it," Fetcher explained. "We were working on a meeting, bringing him in. Get him to meet everyone before a decision is made."

"He was definitely talented," he added. "I personally believe he had a bright future in the music business. He definitely would have had a career."
