John Legend Denounces President Trump’s Immigration Ban: ‘America Has to Be Better Than That’ [VIDEO]
Rihanna isn't alone in her disgust over President Donald Trump's executive order, which bans refugees and immigrants form seven Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) from entering the United States.
R&B piano man John Legend spoke out against the immigration ban during the The Producers Guild of America ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday night (Jan. 28). While protests were erupting at international airports from JFK to LAX, Legend addressed Trump while onstage at the PGAs.
"Los Angeles is the home of so many immigrants, so many creative people, so many dreamers," he said in the video above. "Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions. Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump. I want to specifically tonight reject his vision and affirm that America has to be better than that."
Legend also put his money where his mouth is and donated monies to ACLU and other advocacy organizations "who are committed to fighting for freedom in the land of the free."
Meanwhile, President Trump appears to be oblivious of the outrage and protests that are happening in the wake of his immigration ban. Trump claimed that his order was “not a Muslim ban” and claimed that these measures were long overdue. “It’s working out very nicely. You see it at the airports, you see it all over,” he said.
