Jay-Z has been tapped to score the movie redo of the 1982 flick ‘Annie,’ as well as produce the accompanying soundtrack. Jay’s Roc Nation artist Willow is playing orphan Annie in the remake, which is being produced by her father, Will Smith.

According to Bust, Smith confirmed to ‘Good Morning America’ anchor Robin Roberts that an ‘Annie’ remake is in the works through his production company Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures. The film will be a modern-day update set in New York. No word on when production would start on the movie.

Smith has been successful in the past with remaking classic kids movies. He produced the redo of the 1984 flick ‘The Karate Kid’ in 2010, which starred his son, Jaden Smith. The movie grossed $177 million at the box office, according IMDB.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z is quite familiar with the movie ‘Annie’ having used a sample of the Charles Strouse-penned ‘It’s the Hard-Knock Life’ for his 1999 anthem ‘Hard Knock Life.’ The original song appeared in the 1977 musical ‘Annie’ as sung by the original Broadway cast.
