What's often thought of as a vegetable, is actually a fruit! The tomato, with origins in Mexico, the tomato will be celebrated with great grandeur Saturday in Jacksonville for the annual Tomato Fest!

It'll be the 29th celebration of the fruit that is used as a vegetable on burgers, in salads, in salsa, in ketchup, on pizza's and many other ways including fried! The little red, sometimes squishy, thing comes in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors and all of them will be on display Saturday morning and afternoon from East Texas farmers.

Tomato Fest offers a wide variety of events and entertainment for the entire family in downtown Jacksonville. The event gets underway around 8a and wraps up around 4p but continues into the evening with the Chili' street dance from 7p-10p at Chili's on Jackson St. Activities during the day include a salsa making contest, art and craft vendor booths, tomato shoot, tomato eating contest, tomato peeling and mashing contests in addition to motorcycle, tractor and antique car shows along with other activities too!

The 29th annual Tomato Fest in Jacksonville will be held in downtown Jacksonville on Commerce and Austin Streets between the steps of the Tomato Bowl and the downtown bridge.
