This story is unbelievable, and made me angry when I read it. According to the Houston Press, a local Houston restaurant, actually made light of domestic violence on their outdoor sign. The Roots Bistro in Houston, a vegetarian restaurant, posted "Beer should be like violence -- domestic," on their marquee. Yes, for real!It was on the marquee this past weekend, and the manager claims it was only up there for 10 minutes. As you may guess, the so-called “joke,” outraged local residents and everyone who read about it on the Internet as soon as it went viral.

When the manager on duty at the restaurant was asked about the sign, here's what he had to say:

“Obviously no one here would condone any type of violence, domestic or otherwise. ... We completely deserved the backlash, and I can’t be mad at anyone but myself.”

But the next message posted on the marquee didn’t exactly sound apologetic for the  message:

“Seriously, focus your energy on equal rights,” the new sign read. As in: “Seriously, learn to take a joke, uptight members of the Houston community and Internet.”

Sometimes I don't get people and the way they think, or don't think. Obviously this manager is a self-absorbed idiot, that needs to be fired and brought down a few pegs. How can anyone even think that that's even remotely funny?

Here's some very disturbing statistics concerning domestic violence. According to a Senate judiciary report, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States -- more even than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined. Women of all races are equally vulnerable to violence by an intimate partner, although low-income women are at a three-times higher risk. One woman is beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds in the United States.

Not so funny, is it?
