One person has been seriously injured after a house he was working on exploded shortly before noon Wednesday.

According to Tyler Fire Marshall Paul Findley, the explosion and fire happened on the east side of the house located at 1430 ESE Loop 323 where the victim was working with a large amount of paint thinner and a floor buffer machine.

The explosion forced the victim out of the home and was on fire. A passerby, an investigator with the Smith County District Attorneys office, went to the aid of the victim and was also injured when he was overcome with smoke. Both men are hospitalized in undetermined condition.

It does not appear the home was occupied and was being renovated at the time of the explosion.The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation,and it appears the home is a total loss.
