Numerous road closures are reported in East Texas today as a result of the heavy rains. The Texas Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety reports the following road closures:

Smith County, Road Washed out on County Road 1105 between County Rd. 1104 and County Rd. 1261

Henderson County, FM 3441 closed south of Malakof because of high water. Motorist urged to take FM 59 as an alternate route.

Anderson County, FM 321 west of Hwy 287 at Catfish Creek is closed due to high water. Motorist urged to take FM 2706 or FM 645 as alternate routes.

Van Zandt County, Hwy 110 between FM 1255 and Van, use FM 773 or FM 1805 as alternate routes.

Wood County ,FM 69 North of Quitman, motorist urged to take  FM 2966 or FM 1643 as alternate routes and  FM 312 South of Winnsboro, use FM 2869 or T 37 as alternate routes

The City of Tyler, Commerce and Fleishel Street in is down to one lane because of a downed tree, and the 2800 block of Robertson Street is closed because of a fallen tree there.

Police in Tyler also report the 1500 block of Rice Road is down to one lane in both directions because of a broken water main.

Multiple Fires in Smith County Under Investigation

LINDALE – The Smith County Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the cause of several fires that occurred early this morning.

A fire in downtown Lindale caused heavy damage to a shopping strip at 407 South Main Street. Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 4 a.m.

Shortly after 2 a. m. firefighters from four departments were called out to the Hide-A-Way Lake Community Church on Lake Park Circle. The fire caused considerable damage to the Sanctuary.

Lightning is suspected in a house fire on County Rd. 42. Authorities say the house is a total loss, no injuries were reported in that blaze.

Possible Twister Near San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio area residents are cleaning up after a tornado touched down southwest of the city yesterday. The storms flooded roads and delayed flights in Dallas-Fort Worth. Parts of the state remain under a flash flood warning today as downpours continue.

 

Suspect in Marshall Church Fire Arrested

MARSHALL - An East Texas Teen suspected of setting fire to a local church has been arrested and could be responsible for several other fires.

Harrison County Sheriff’s office investigators have charged 17 year old Dylan Morgan of arson in connection with a fire last month at the Woodlawn Baptist Church Fellowship Hall located north of Marshall on Hwy 59.

Authorities said Morgan is a resident of the Chaparral Ranch sub-division which is located west of Hwy 59 on FM 1997 and is in the immediate area of several other suspect fires. Other alleged offenses will be referred to the Harrison County District Attorney.

 

CHAPEL HILL – A two vehicle accident Monday claimed the life of one person and injured two other people. DPS says Billy Donahue Norman, 46, of Troup died in the accident. Norman was the passenger in a car driven by Lindsey Jean Barton, 28, also of Troup. She is listed in critical condition at ETMC in Tyler.

Troopers say a truck driven by Jesus Alfredo, 43, Tyler  pulled into the path of Barton’s vehicle at Hwy 64 east and FM 2607.
