A Marshall man is dead a short time after being tased by police when he resisted arrest and assault on a peace officer.

According to the Marshall News Messenger, Marcus Dwayne Slade was tased by police when he put up a struggle while officers attempted to arrest him for disorderly conduct.

Slade was transported to the Harrison County Jail where he became unresponsive a short time after being booked in.

The incident occurred in the area of East Houston Street and Scoggins Street Friday night.

An autopsy has been ordered, and as procedure, the Texas Rangers are investigating the inmate’s death.

Slade was set to celebrate his birthday Monday, Jan. 7. He would have been 33.
