Authorities say a Ben Wheeler man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife after finding her at the home of another man.

44-year-old Larry Maples of was charged with murder in the shooting death of 34-year-old Heather Maples. Investigators say 47-year-old Moses Clemente also was shot and wounded Sunday morning.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from an individual later identified of Maples stating that he had just shot his wife and her boyfriend. Deputies arrived at a rural residence located at 2641 FM 16 west of Canton a short time later and arrested Maples at the front door of the residence without incident.

Investigators determined that Maples had arrived in the area of the shooting in the early hours of the morning, parked his pickup a short distance from the scene and walked to the home on foot.

Maples after seeing his wife’s vehicle parked at the rear of the home entered the residence through an unlocked door. Once inside the home, Maples shot the owner of the residence identified as Moses Clemente of Canton, following a brief altercation. Maples then shot and killed his wife Heather.

Clemente was transported to Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler where he was treated for a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He is listed in critical condition and is expected recover fully.

Heather Maples was pronounced dead at the scene by Van Zandt County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Don Kirkpatrick.
