In this morning's edition, the traditionally conservative Dallas Morning News shocked a number of pundits by electing to endorse Hillary Clinton for President.

There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November. We recommend Hillary Clinton.

While the newspaper stopped short of a glowing review of Clinton's personal and ethical reputation, it praised her skills as a leader and and outlined her ability to reach across the aisle throughout her political career.

The Dallas Morning News also noted that it did not come to its decision easily.

This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation's highest office since before World War II — if you're counting, that's more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections.

Highly critical of the Republican nominee, the newspaper cited a number of faults in Donald Trump's personal character that, they say, make him unfit to hold the highest office in the United States.

Trump's values are hostile to conservatism. He plays on fear — exploiting base instincts of xenophobia, racism and misogyny — to bring out the worst in all of us, rather than the best. His serial shifts on fundamental issues reveal an astounding absence of preparedness. And his improvisational insults and midnight tweets exhibit a dangerous lack of judgment and impulse control.

Texas has long been a stronghold for Republicans and it represents a must-win state for Trump.  However, In an extensive 50-state poll released this week by the Washington Post, Clinton and Trump were in a dead heat in Texas. The poll surveyed more than 5,000 Texans and the findings surprised many on both sides of the political battle.

Many Latinos have expressed uneasiness with Trump and a number of strategists have speculated that this is the reason for Clinton's seeming ability to pull ahead in Texas.

In this election, it appears, that anything might be possible, including a Democrat winning Texas.
