It's spring cleaning time in Smith County as all Smith County residents are urged to clean up their property and roadsides for spring and to make East Texas and Smith County a cleaner place.

The county wide project will begin Monday, April 1st and run through the 14th and residents of Smith County will be given the opportunity to bring trash and bulky items to the Greenwood Farms Landfill free of charge. To take advantage of the program though you will need to obtain a voucher from a local Justice of the Peace or Constable precinct office or at the Smith County Courthouse annex building. The voucher will allow residents to unload up the three cubic yards of trash and bulky items per person, its basically the size of a full sized truck bed of trash!

However, there are some restrictions to items that can be dropped off in the landfill and those items include hazardous waste, gas, oil, paint, pesticides/herbicides, batteries, tires, refrigerators, freezers, televisions and electronic equipment including computers. Those items will need to be disposed of properly or recycled.

The county wide clean up is headed up by the Smith County Environmental Crimes Unit with help from county constables and the Commissioners Court. Smith County Environmental Crimes Officer Tommy Goodman says, "Manager Zach Briscoe of Greenwood Farms provides us with services every year to make the County Wide Clean-up event possible. We could not do this without their generosity."

Instructions on how to claim your voucher can be obtained by calling one of the following Constable precinct offices:
