NFL star Colin Kaepernick is taking his activism off the gridiron and applying it to real life. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has launched a new youth program called Know Your Rights Camp.

According to official website, the camp is "a free campaign for youth to raise awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instruction to properly interact with law enforcement in various scenarios."

Kaepernick is totally hands-on with his initiative, including packing backpacks with supplies for the kids who enroll in the program.

"I didn't just want to hire someone to come in and do this," he told Shaun King of New York Daily News. "We did all of this ourselves. We even opted out of corporate sponsors because we just wanted the freedom to say exactly what we thought the kids we've brought here today need to hear and learn. I told myself that if I was going to do this type of work, that I was going to actually do it myself,” he said.

The camp, which is based in Oakland, Calif., was inspired by the Black Panther Party and their popular 10 point plan. The camp has established 10 rights that each child has the right to know and are listed on the back of their T-Shirts. "You have the right to be free," comes first, but others on the list sub in words like "healthy," "brilliant," "trusted" and "safe."

"This is just the beginning man," said Kaepernick. "What we've done here today in Oakland, we want to do all over the country, in cities all over this country, by bringing together local leaders, local activists and local youth, and not only giving them the skills and lessons they need, but we want to show them how much we love and value them."
