Despite a glowing report from his probation officer, Chris Brown‘s bid to end his supervised probation was denied by a judge at a hearing on Thursday (Feb 9).

As a result, the singer will remain under the watch of a probation officer in his native Virginia and must complete the original terms of his sentence as they were handed down … for now. The judge wants Breezy to complete more of his community service.

Brown was placed on five years worth of probation after he famously beat up his former girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammys in 2009.

According to Billboard, Breezy was not on site for the hearing during which his lawyer requested the supervised probation end due to his good behavior and his concerted efforts to clean up his act. While Superior Court Judge George Lomeli applauded Brown’s behavior, he denied the request.

During the past year and change, Brown has enjoyed a No. 1 album and has displayed a desire to be a better person, save for that little ‘Good Morning America’ blow up. He completed an anger management course and went to domestic violence counseling. He passed all required drug tests and was truthful with his probation offers. After pleading guilty to the charge of attacking and assaulting his ex, he completed roadside cleanup and graffiti removal as part of his mandated community service, as well as other manual labor he was required to perform.

In other words, Breezy got an “A” on his probation report card.

Even RiRi herself asked that his restraining order, which forbade them from contacting one another or from being in close proximity at music industry events, could be lifted and spoke about how she is a fan of what he is doing. There’s also those pervasive rumors that the two harbor feelings for one another and hook up in secret. If they’re true, that’d mean RiRi has fully forgiven him for his actions.

Another progress hearing is set for July 10.

A mere three years after the Rihanna beating, Brown will return to the Grammys. He is set to perform on Music’s Biggest Night on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8PM ET on CBS.
