I premise this story by saying that I hate spiders. Actually, I think I'm an arachnophobe. But of all the ways I've come up with to kill an eight legged menace, fire is not one of them.

A Redding, California resident thought it would be a good idea to use a "torch lighter" to kill "a huge wolf spider" in their apartment according to kxxv.com.

The problem with trying to burn the spider is that it didn't kill it immediately. It scurried around to catch some bedding on fire which spread to the walls.

Not that spiders aren't terrifying enough, now it's running around on fire. My skin is crawling just thinking about it.

Firefighters arrived and were able to put the fire out. There was enough damage that some of the residents will have to live elsewhere until repairs can be made.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Redding firefighters did pass on some sound advice on their Facebook page, "Call an exterminator if you have spiders.... and don't try to burn them." I'll give that a big "Duh".
