Robin Gibb, one third of the soulful disco/pop group the Bee Gees, died today at the age of 63, according to multiple reports.

Gibb, who had been battling cancer for years, was the second of the three brothers to pass away from the group. His twin brother, Maurice, died in 2003.

Here is the statement released by the family's spokesperson:

"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

The group retired from music after Maurice's death in 2003, although Robin and brother Barry performed together a few times, including an appearance on American Idol in 2010.
