John Witherspoon the legendary actor and comedian has died suddenly at the age of 77.

According to TMZ, Witherspoon died yesterday (October 29th) at his home in Sherman Oaks, California.

His family released a statement on his passing,

It is with deep sadness we have to tweet this, but our husband & father John Witherspoon has passed away. He was a Legend in the entertainment industry, and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you 'POPS' always & forever.

With a career spanning over five decades with stand up comedy and acting Witherspoon was most recognized as Willie Jones the father of Ice Cube in the hilarious 'Friday' movies.

Also, as Pops in the 'Wayans Brothers' and Robert Freeman from the 'Boondocks', and of course in the movie 'Boomerang' with the classic line "You got to coordinate...", and "Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang..."

Anything John Witherspoon touched was a guaranteed laugh and he has left a last legacy of laughs and he will be truly missed.

Even though he was known worldwide to the African American community we lost our favorite "TV Uncle" who would roast you, give you a good laugh, and words to encourage you when times got hard.

I'm not going to lie; this one hurt!

Rest In Power Mr. Witherspoon....
