How Many People Skip Out on Washing Their Hands?
Do you wash your hands EVERY time you use a public restroom?
Perhaps you wash your hands religiously after using the restroom at a store or restaurant, but not so much at work. Who cares, you know all those people in the office and they’re like family, right? You can let the hand-washing slide there. Ew! Family members and those donut-eating co-workers have germs too.
Tyler Makes Lots of Lumpia! It’s Egg Rolls For a Good Cause.
Purple is the color that’s become attached to pancreatic cancer awareness campaigns. Pictured is the memorial for Patrick Swayze, when he died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.
East Texans gathered Sunday to raise money and awareness for one person from Tyler who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And they attempted to break a world record by doing it.
Allowances for Kids Keep Going Up
Kids have a pretty sweet situation with allowance money these days.
I think I scored $2 per week from my parents to start, and then later on I got an extra $1.50 or $2 for mowing certain sections of the yard. That’s how I could afford those hot eleven dollar jeans!
The average allowance nowadays is just over $16 a week or $65 per month, according to the American Institute of CPA’s. That comes out
How Often Do You Check Your Phone?
I read that 20 percent of us check our smart phones every ten minutes.
I hate to admit it, but I’m one of those helpless, pathetic addicts. I just can’t stand not knowing what might be going on inside that phone as it sits there on my desk. Has someone sent a text? What new emails have just landed? Maybe I should check Facebook. Perhaps a celebrity couple has broken up….I should see. Stop the madn
Texas 12-Year Old Banned From Playing Football
Six feet tall and 300 pounds sounds like a good size to play football. But apparently that’s too big at age 12, and in that case league rules say the boy will have to stay on the sidelines.
Fox Sports Southwest did a story that many media outlets are covering, on the 12-year old boy from Mesquite, near Dallas, who was told after a weigh-in Sunday that he wouldn’t be able to play.
The Average Wedding Costs How Much?!
It’s no secret that weddings can costs big bucks, but are you prepared for the actual number?
By the time you add up the flowers, the dress, the food at the reception, and that open bar, and maybe booking a cool place like the Woldert-Spence Manor Bed and Breakfast or other quaint and romantic spot, the tally can reach the price of a small SUV.
Tyler ISD Has New Slogan
Just ahead of back-to-school, the Tyler ISD is talking about its new logo and slogan.
You’ll start seeing the new logo pop up right away, after it was approved Monday by the Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees. Perhaps you were even a part of the new design. The group K12 insight helped set up focus groups to come up with the design and accept input from those who wanted a say in

Longview Man Dies After Bar Fight
A night out turned ugly last week, and those involved are still on the loose.

Tyler Kids Flocking to Boys and Girls Club
After reading more about the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Texas, I wish I was a kid again! It sounds like they’re learning some valuable life skills — even how to change a flat tire. That means 9-year olds who hang out at the Boys and Girls Club this summer, will come in handier in a pinch than most adults.
And one super cool new attraction for the Boys and Girls Club just opened!
One of Astronomy’s Rarest Events Will be Visible in East Texas
When you hear the phrase, “Transit of Venus,” it sounds like it might be a band name or a good club with velvet ropes and a line out the door on a Saturday night. But it has nothing to do with pop culture. It really does have something to do with the planet Venus, and it’s a rare event that we’ll be able to witness tomorrow in Tyler.

With thousands hitting the road this weekend in East Texas, the risk of traffic accidents increases. And it’s not speeders that present the biggest problem, it’s the red light runners. And what are the most dangerous intersections in Tyler?
