Kevin Hart Is Our New Santa Claus for Disney’s ‘Dashing Through the Snow’
When you think of Santa Claus, what do you think of? Fur-lined red coats? Red- and green-wrapped presents? Cookies left out by the fireplace? A successful decade-and-half-long standup comedy and acting career working with the likes of Judd Apatow, Ice Cube, and Dwayne Johnson? If it’s that last one, first of all, really? Second of all, you’re in luck, because professional standup comedian and actor Kevin Hart is in talks to play Santa Claus in Disney’s Dashing Through the Snow.
Ava DuVernay Consulted on a Very Important ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Scene
Star Wars: The Force Awakens underwent a bunch of reshoots, as is the norm for blockbusters these days, and while, at the time, those reshoots were mostly kept a mystery, now some news has come out about one key scene in particular. Apparently J.J. Abrams and Ava DuVernay are good friends (who knew??) and frequently trade footage and screeners back and forth to one another to get some notes and suggestions. And one very important scene in The Force Awakens probably would not have been as cool without DuVernay’s guiding hand.
Vin Diesel Is at It Again With the ‘Fast 8’ Oscar Thing
Back when he was doing press rounds for 2015’s Furious 7, Vin Diesel made some pretty bold statements about the movie deserving to be nominated for an Academy Award (and let’s be real, the only thing more emotional last year than the final minutes of Furious 7 was, maybe, Carol). It, of course, wasn’t, which should come as no surprise, even though it was a critical and box office success, but that hasn’t stopped our buddy Vin, who is now saying that the next film in the franchise, Fast 8, should be Oscar-worthy.
Tessa Thompson and Zoe Kravitz Are Testing for the Han Solo Film’s Female Lead
Remember that Han Solo movie Lucasfilm is planning? So far, only Alden Ehrenreich has been cast, but now we hear that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are testing for the film’s female lead. Among the hopefuls are Mad Max: Fury Road star Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson (Creed, Selma), and Naomi Scott from the upcoming Power Rangers movie.
‘Get Out’ Trailer: Jordan Peele’s Horror Satire Finally Sees the Light of Day
After it was announced that Comedy Central’s Key & Peele was coming to an end, the world wondered, what would these two get up to next? Their first feature Keanu, a comedic John Wick parody about a kitten that gets catnapped by gangsters, was more or less just okay, more a feature-length comedy sketch that ran on too long, rather than an actual movie. Bu...
Here’s Whom Joss Whedon Would Pick for President, If He Got to Choose an Avenger
Joss Whedon is open about his politics, never one to shy away from letting us all know whom he supports for this upcoming election. Just last week, he and a few of his Avenger pals posted a PSA to launch his new organization Save the Day, urging Americans to make sure they’re registered to vote. On Friday, Whedon also hosted a Facebook Live chat to promote Save the Day, in which he answered some fan questions, including which of the Avengers he’d pick to run the country.
Time Warner CEO Says DC Films Have “a Little Room for Improvement”
So far, the DC cinematic universe hasn’t had a great start. With reviews of Man of Steel, and this year’s Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad leaning towards the negative, the folks in charge are trying anything they can think of to get their next few films in development back on track. Whether those fixes will actually work remains to be seen, but at least the movies’ lackluster performance is being noticed by those on the production side.
‘Hidden Figures’ Trailer: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae Win the Space Race
It’s still not easy for women in the STEM industry, and it was even harder in the 1960s. It’s rare to get a glimpse behind the scenes of auspicious historical events like the success of Project Mercury, and even rarer for the movie to look like so much fun. The new trailer for Hidden Figures gives us just that, with Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe portraying the real-life women who helped NASA get ahead in the Space Race that seems as honest to history as it is entertaining.
Morgan Spurlock’s ‘Rats’ Trailer Will Make You Afraid of Toilets, Walls, City Streets, Everything Else
Remember the documentary Super Size Me, that made you never want to eat anything ever again? Well, Morgan Spurlock is back, baby, and now he’s planning on making you afraid of a whole bunch of other things. The trailer for his new documentary Rats is edited like a horror movie, showcasing terrifying images of the havoc rats wreak on major cities across the world, and the preventative measures humans have taken to try to stop them. If you like rats, maybe don’t watch this trailer. If you don’t like rats... well, you probably shouldn’t watch it either.
Kurt Russell Says ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Will Be a “Complex” Story About Family
Kurt Russell is so far the most exciting news we’ve had of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, made even more exciting by the fact that he’ll be playing Ego the Living Planet, also known as Star-Lord’s mysterious father. Russell himself might even be more excited than we are about the movie, which, according to him, is even bigger than its predecessor, expanding on the universe that the first Guardians built.
The Joker Won’t Terrorize His Co-Stars in ‘Justice League’
That whooosh you just heard is the entire cast of Justice League breathing a collective sigh of relief.
Adam Driver Says ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Is Similar to ‘The Empire Strikes Back’
Okay, relax, it’s not what you think. The Force Awakens is still one of the most successful movies in box office history. The criticism, when there was any, shared a similar theme: it was way too similar to the very first Star Wars movie A New Hope. There’s even a shot-by-shot comparison video that details every location and scene the sequel borrowed from the original. A lot of people figured this was the fault of the studio, Disney wanting to play it safe rather than give J.J. Abrams his head so he could take the franchise in a new direction. And it’s true, there are so many callbacks to the original in The Force Awakens that at some point you just want to throw your hands up and yell “OKAY! We get it! This is a Star Wars movie!” Today, Adam Driver raised some eyebrows while talking about Episode 8 by drawing a comparison to The Empire Strikes Back, but not in the way you think.
