Batman Isn’t the Only DC Superhero in ‘Suicide Squad’
Suicide Squad is a film about DC super-villains tasked with defeating something more evil than their sinister forces combined, so we weren’t exactly expecting a bunch of those pesky superheroes to show up and spoil their fun. We already knew that Ben Affleck’s Batman has a small role in David Ayer’s movie, but apparently there’s another DC superhero making a surprise appearance. Spoilers ahead, obviously.
‘Black Panther’ Star Lupita Nyong’o Reveals First Plot Details For the Solo Film
Captain America: Civil War introduced two more Marvel heroes: Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man, and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther — both of whom will hit the big screen in their own solo films over the next couple of years. We know a little about Spider-Man: Homecoming, but not very much at all about Black Panther, aside from the fact that it has a great cast and director. And thanks to one of those actors, we now have our first plot details for the upcoming film.
New Netflix Instant Releases: August 2016
It’s a little later than usual, but Netflix has finally announced their upcoming streaming releases for August — which is next week, by the way. Among this month’s offerings are new Netflix Original titles, like Baz Luhrmann’s series The Get Down and the animated adaptation of The Little Prince. As usual, there are several new films hitting the streaming library, including contemporary favorites like Blue Is the Warmest Color and No Country for Old Men. Read on for our full guide to August’s new Netflix Instant Releases.
The ‘Justice League’ Assembles in First Footage and Promo Photo From Comic-Con
Warner Bros. kicked things off pretty strong during today’s Comic-Con panel in Hall H, debuting a fantastic new trailer for the Wonder Woman solo movie, followed by a special sneak peek at Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In addition to screening footage from the first installment in the two-part film series, WB premiered an official photo featuring the full superhero lineup, giving us a better idea of what these characters will look like when they’re finally united.
Dan Aykroyd Has Harsh Words For ‘Ghostbusters’ Haters Who Attacked Leslie Jones
If you haven’t been paying attention: Leslie Jones endured a barrage of disgusting racist and misogynist attacks that ultimately forced her to take a leave of absence from Twitter. The culprits? The very vocal contingency of Ghostbusters fans (aka Ghostbros) who have been decrying Paul Feig’s reboot because it features an all-female cast. Original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd has come out in support of Jones, and he’s got some seriously harsh words for all the haters.
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: August 2016
It’s that time again: Amazon has announced the newest streaming additions coming to Prime Instant Video in August, giving you yet another excuse to procrastinate as you endlessly browse Netflix, Amazon, HBO NOW, et al. for something to watch — before ultimately realizing it’s been two hours and you might as well just watch the third season of Parks and Rec AGAIN. But Amazon will make it easier for you next month, with highlights including recent faves like Inside Llewyn Davis, Blue Ruin and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Debuts New Footage in This Celebration Sizzle Reel
You may recall that J.J. Abrams debuted a sizzle reel for The Force Awakens at last year’s Comic-Con, which featured new footage and some great behind-the-scenes material — this sizzle reel for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is pretty similar. Instead of debuting a new trailer for the upcoming standalone / prequel story, director Gareth Edwards offered this fantastic sneak peek at the film during the Rogue One panel at Star Wars Celebration.
‘The Flash’ Solo Film Eyes ‘Dope’ Star Kiersey Clemons For Female Lead
Following his acclaimed feature debut, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa — like many of his fellow indie filmmakers — is making the leap to big budget blockbusters, having recently replaced Seth Grahame-Smith on The Flash solo film over at Warner Bros. Since Famuyiwa joined the WB / DC family, we’d been wondering if any of his Dope stars might be joining him, and the answer is…maybe!
‘Suicide Squad’ Assembles the Worst of the Worst in New Magazine Covers
We are about a month away from the release of Suicide Squad, David Ayer’s devious new DC super-villain team-up that brings The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot and more together in what will hopefully prove to be an antidote to this disappointing summer movie season. If you’re itching for a new look at the Squad, Ayer’s film has taken over the latest edition of EW, which features the cast on four different magazine covers as well as some new info on the highly-anticipated project.
Even Daisy Ridley’s Hair Is Top Secret in ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’
It’s no secret that production on the new Star Wars trilogy has been, well, top secret. Although director Rian Johnson has shared a few photos from the set of Episode VIII, they haven’t been particularly revelatory, as everything from the plot to the costumes has been shrouded in secrecy. That includes Daisy Ridley’s hair — quite literally, as you can see in a new video in which the actress shows off her workout routine.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Finds Another Villain in ‘Fargo’ Favorite Bokeem Woodbine
It’s time for our daily update on the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is, once again, adding more awesome names to its growing roster. At the very least, Marvel and Sony’s new reboot will have a fantastic and very diverse cast — one that now includes Fargo Season 2 favorite Bokeem Woodbine (as yet another villain) and Better Call Saul star Michael Mando.
Dwayne Johnson to Produce ‘Son of Shaolin’ Graphic Novel Adaptation
Dwayne Johnson is a real-life superhero: Seemingly immortal, immune to exhaustion, able to leap tall franchises in a single bound. Johnson’s plate seems pretty full right now, but he’s just added another big project to his increasingly crowded schedule, and although he’s not officially attached to star in this new graphic novel adaptation just yet, it’s probably only a matter of time before he is — not that Johnson is beholden to time as we mere mortals know it.
