Since seeing Patrick Mahomes' first start with the Kansas City Chiefs - a 27-24 victory over the Denver Broncos on Dec. 31, 2017 - East Texas has been eagerly waiting to hear what the NFL franchise has in store for the former 1st Round Pick from Tyler, Texas.

Well, the Kansas City Star announced on Tuesday that the Chiefs have traded former starting QB Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins in return for a promising cornerback. According to an extensive report, all signs point to Pat Mahomes being the new leader for the Chiefs, who was eliminated from the playoffs in a tight 22-21 loss to Tennessee on Saturday.

In his regular season debut as a Chief, the former Texas Tech Red Raider threw for 284 yards with an interception, highlighted by his game-winning drive late in the game.

Ever since the Whitehouse High alum was drafted 10th overall in 2017, it's a fair thing to say the Chiefs invested in the young QB to be the future arm for the franchise.

The Kansas City Star reports that the trade cannot be officially made until the new league year, which commences on March 14 at 3 p.m. However, sources indicate it is a "done deal".

Looks like I'll be routing for more than just the Cowboys come the new season. Hey, don't hate, we got pride here in East Texas!

Congrats Pat!
