If home ownership is one of your goals for 2020, but you live on a fixed income then you might want to listen up as the City of Tyler will be taking applications from low income families for their Housing Choice Voucher program for the first time in five years.

According to KLTV, this program is to assist the following

  • Low Income Families
  • The Elderly
  • The Disabled to lease or buy safe, decent, and affordable privately owned rental housing.

For instance you could qualify if you are a one person household with a low income of $24,650 a year, or a four person household with an income of $35,200 a year per Adriana Rodriguez the public information officer for the City of Tyler.

Those who apply and receive a voucher for housing will find an apartment that accepts the voucher.  The landlord will work with the program to pay a set amount and the tenant will cover the approved difference.

There are 970 individuals currently on the voucher program and the waiting list is at zero "0" which allowed them to make the waiting list with 150 slots available.
