All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings underwent groin surgery Thursday morning, and it was successful according to team officials.

It marked the third time Peterson had surgery in the offseason. He had surgery to repair a torn ACL after the 2012 season and last year he had hernia surgery.

His recovery is expected to last about six weeks, so he'll be back on the field in plenty of time for the 2014 NFL season.

Peterson, a 2004 graduate of Palestine High School, rushed for 1,266 yards in 14 games for Minnesota this season.
