Dear Dad's,

Once again we have arrived to another Father's Day weekend to spend with our families.

While we are taking time to read cards and try on those neck ties or barbecue Sunday dinner, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you for being a dad.

You see many don't really understand what it is really like to be a father especially to those who grew up with no father in the house.

I grew up in a single parent household and because of my mom and dad couldn't agree on being co-parents I was pretty much left to figure out how to navigate through life into becoming a man.

Thankfully, I still have my grandfather who will be turning 89 next month to keep me on the right path.  However, it don't take away from the fact of longing for the love and guidance of my father.

Don't get me wrong, my father and I have a wonderful relationship.  I just often wonder how would my life would have been impacted if he was there on the regular that's all.

So, fast forward to 1995 when I became a father for the first time at the age of 19, I had no clue on what to do or to expect.

It was majority trial and error and I'm just thankful for my "Village" who was there to keep me grounded because most father's would have gave up under pressure mainly because they never had a blueprint of what a father is to them.

My boys are my EVERYTHING and being a single father wasn't an easy task with it's daily challenges.  However, I love them unconditionally and they have evolved into outstanding young men which makes me very proud.

To all the dad's who are celebrating this Father's day allow me to say thank you for all that you do.

While the world may not recognize us and our daily struggles to provide for our families I want you to know that I see you and stand in solidarity as we continue to be great men.

You are valued, loved, and appreciated!

You are truly the real MVP not just on Father's day, but everyday.

So take this day and enjoy because you know we will be back on the job tomorrow since there are no off days when it comes to being a dad.

Happy Father's Day guys!
