‘Back To The Future’ fans, rejoice! Not only has 2011 been the year of the Nike Air Mag, but thanks to a group of intrepid scientists, hoverboards may no longer be a crazy pipe dream.

The scientists in this video may seem to be performing some form of wizardry, but what they are actually doing here is using the concept of quantum locking (which still sort of sounds like wizardry).

When a superconductor like yttrium barium copper oxide is exposed to extremely cold temperatures, it will levitate when it comes into contact with a magnetic field. Clearly it was only a matter of time before someone applied this concept to building a hover board.

Nice job, eggheads! Now get back to work on building us a functional jet pack.
