White Lives Matter Rally To Be Held In Houston

After a weekend of utter chaos and terrorism that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia as white nationalists and counter protesters got out of control where three individuals lost their lives, a political activist announced he will hold a “White Lives Matter” rally at Texas A&M University on September 11^th.

From Click To Houston the organizer Preston Wiginton he said he was inspired by Saturday’s Unite the Right event in Charlottesville, Virginia.  This event will protest “the liberal agenda of white guilt and white genocide that is taught at most all universities in America”

A representative of Texas A&M made a statement that the school does not promote or agree with the organizer’s ideas or actions and Senator Charles Schwertner also pledged to personally protest the event saying this does not reflect the values of Texas A&M University or the people of Texas.

Wiginton is no stranger to Texas A&M University. He was responsible for an event last December featuring controversial speaker Richard Spencer, who is scheduled to return again for September's event.

As an African American male I find it very troubling that this type of movement is still alive and well in today's society.  Personally, I've witnessed the ugly, harsh reality of racism and discrimination and I can't believe that the same things my Grandfather told me from his childhood I'm seeing first-hand and my children are witnessing it as well.

Two things need to happen if we really want to put a end to racism.

1.  We ALL need to have an open-minded discussion about racism and kill it at the root.  We can't continue to not address the elephant in the room when the perpetrators have no problems exposing their behavior in front of our faces.

2.  We have to hold each other accountable for their racist actions.  That means if we see racist behavior and don't call it for what it is then we are just as guilty as the offender.  We really need to draw the lines if we want to have racial equality.  This isn't about political parties this is strictly about what is right and what is wrong.

It's time that we finally put a end to this because if we don't we will continue to have that same dream Dr. King had 54 years ago and it's time to make it a reality.
