Finally! The City of Tyler is moving closer to getting a new arena/convention center. We've desperately needed this for many years and today (Jan. 9) the Tyler City Council voted to enter into a contract with Garfield Traub Development to get the ball rolling. The proposed convention center would have 250 hotel rooms and an 18,000 square-foot ballroom. It would sit on nine acres in South Tyler and would cost between $57 to $70 million.

The arena would cost between $44 to $66 million and would (hopefully) be the perfect place for concerts -- real concerts -- to come to the area!

The arena will require 40 percent donor dollars in order to make it happen. A bond election would also have to be approved.

I know this is still several years down the road, but it's exciting to finally hear some real talk on a new complex in Tyler!
