Tinie Tempah Spends $37,500 on ‘Back to the Future’ Nike Sneakers

When he traveled to the year 2015 in ‘Back to the Future Part II,’ Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, saw plenty of amazing things, and a sizable portion of them — including hoverboards, flying cars, and, thankfully, ‘Jaws Part 19′ — haven’t come to pass.

But thanks to the hardworking scientists in the Nike labs, we now have the glowing, self-lacing sneakers that Marty wore in the future — and they’re being auctioned off to benefit Parkinson’s disease research. UK rapper Tinie Tempah got his hands on the first pair, which set him back the eye-popping sum of $37,500.

Yes, that’s more than a lot of people make in a year, and yes, they are only sneakers — but again, this is for charity, and besides, Tempah also received a commemorative “plutonium case” for his investment. (What, you thought he was going to wear them?)

A total of 1,500 pairs of the limited edition sneakers, christened Nike MAGs, will remain on auction until September 18. Now, about those hoverboards…
