With long stretches of open road in the State of Texas, it's easy to go faster than the speed limit!

Texas boasts the highest speed limit anywhere in the nation with a legal limit of 85 m.p.h. along Texas State Highway 130 between Austin and San Antonio. I've driven this toll road one time, it was last summer while on our family summer vacation to San Antonio. While on Texas State Highway 130 I did drive the speed limit and then some, for a while!  It's a weird feeling though cruising along at 85 m.p.h.! Once you get back on I-35 into San Antonio you have to slow to 65 or 70 and that feels like you're crawling after going so fast for so long!

Now that 2017's behind us, the Texas Department of Transportation compiled a list of the highest speeds from drivers that were issued speeding ticket by its troopers. The list showing the twenty highest offenders was published by the Houston Chronicle. After looking at the list there is one common thread among all twenty offenders, their speed exceeded 120 m.p.h. in each and every one of the offenses. Not only did these offenders catch a hefty speeding fine, some of them had their vehicles impounded along with other penalties. Notoriety in this case was tossed aside.

The following is a list of the twenty speediest speeding tickets that were issued on Texas highways in 2017 according to the Texas Department of Transportation:
